3. Job Summary
ePropelled is looking for a hands-on Software Technical Lead to lead the development and delivery of cloud-based software platforms that connect hardware products, connected devices, and user applications.

The ideal candidate should have strong backend development experience in Python or Java, cloud-based application development, microservices, distributed systems, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and IoT or telemetry-based systems.

This position involves technical leadership, software architecture, coding, code reviews, troubleshooting, and mentoring engineers. Approximately 70–80% of the role will involve hands-on technical implementation.

Important: This is a technical leadership position rather than a people-management or line-management role.
4. Key Responsibilities
Software Development and Architecture
– Lead the design and development of backend services, APIs, telemetry processing, and supporting web applications.
– Design service boundaries, data models, interfaces, and scalable software architectures.
– Develop, maintain, and debug production applications using Python or Java.
– Contribute directly to implementation, code reviews, and technical problem-solving.
– Ensure application performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
Cloud, Microservices and DevOps
– Develop and deploy containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
– Work with cloud platforms and distributed application architectures.
– Build and improve automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and software release processes.
– Collaborate with infrastructure and platform engineering teams.
– Monitor application performance and troubleshoot production issues using logs, metrics, and traces.
IoT and Connected Systems
– Collaborate with firmware and hardware engineers to define device-to-platform interfaces.
– Work on device communication, data formats, and version compatibility.
– Address connectivity issues, message retries, duplicate messages, device identity, and access control.
– Support integration between connected devices, cloud platforms, and user applications.
– Improve system reliability and connected-device communication.
Technical Leadership and Team Collaboration
– Provide technical guidance to a team of 4–7 software engineers.
– Review code and provide constructive technical feedback.
– Mentor junior engineers and support their technical development.
– Explain architectural decisions and technical trade-offs.
– Translate product requirements into achievable software development tasks.
– Collaborate with QA, DevOps, firmware, hardware, and platform engineering teams.

6. Essential Experience Requirements
Candidates must demonstrate:
– Minimum 7 years of relevant software engineering experience.
– Previous technical leadership responsibilities.
– Strong production development experience in at least one of Python or Java.
– Experience designing and delivering cloud-based backend services.
– Practical knowledge of microservices, APIs, and distributed systems.
– Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
– Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and controlled software releases.
– Production troubleshooting using logs, metrics, and tracing.
– Genuine experience with deployed IoT, telemetry, device-management, industrial monitoring, telematics, or comparable hardware-connected systems.
– Understanding of SQL databases, authentication, authorisation, and secure service communication.
– Experience mentoring engineers and reviewing production code.
7. Additional / Preferred Skills
The following skills are advantageous but not mandatory:
– MQTT protocol and device provisioning.
– Device identity and remote software updates.
– Edge gateways and Linux-based devices.
– PostgreSQL and time-series databases.
– Practical experience in both Python and Java.
– Frontend frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
– Robotics and manufacturing technologies.
– Industrial automation and uncrewed vehicles.
– AI and machine-learning service integration.
– Experience working with unreliable network connectivity.
8. Educational Qualifications
– Relevant Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or a related discipline is preferred.
– Equivalent practical industry experience will also be considered.
– Candidates from different industry backgrounds are welcome if they demonstrate the required software development, technical leadership, and connected-system experience.
9. Role Structure and Work Expectations
– Hands-on technical contribution: approximately 70–80% of working time.
– Initial team responsibility: 4–7 software engineers.
– Technical ownership: cloud-based software development and connected-device integration.
– Infrastructure and platform operations: supported by the Platform Engineering team.
– Firmware and hardware integration: carried out in collaboration with specialist engineering teams.
– Day-to-day line management and scheduling: handled by the Software Engineering Manager.

Annual salary range
₹10–22 LPA
Equivalent to approximately ₹83,333–₹1,83,333 per month
