Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Piping Engineer to supervise and coordinate piping maintenance, modification and replacement activities at a petroleum refinery in Manali, Chennai.

The role requires strong experience in refinery mechanical works, piping supervision, contractor coordination, inspection clearance, material planning and safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities
Review piping modification drawings and replacement requirements based on inspection work lists.
Identify the exact locations where piping replacement or modification activities are required.
Understand job objectives, scope and execution requirements before commencement.
Plan the sequence of activities and identify critical-path jobs to ensure timely completion.
Coordinate with contractors and CPCL Maintenance/Manufacturing teams for pipeline release.
Identify locations for blinding, hose connections and flange wedge openings.
Be physically present during the first hot-work activity on each pipeline to ensure safe execution.
Monitor piping replacement and modification progress joint-wise and pipeline-wise.
Coordinate with CPCL Inspection for clearances related to:
Fit-up
Root welding
Final welding
DP testing
Radiography
Stress relieving
Hydrotesting
Obtain necessary technical clarifications from CPCL Maintenance Engineers before starting work.
Review shift handover details from the Shift Turnover Log Book and coordinate ongoing activities.
Visit the plant regularly to monitor work progress and provide technical inputs.
Identify resource constraints and escalate issues promptly to the concerned CPCL Engineer.
Monitor contractor activities and ensure work progresses without unnecessary delays.
Maintain continuous safety vigilance and immediately address safety violations.
Coordinate with the CPCL Engineer and outsourced Safety Engineer regarding safety concerns.
Record activity start and completion times in the Shift Turnover Log Book.
Prepare end-of-shift summaries covering welding joints, stress relieving, radiography, hydrotesting and other completed activities.
Ensure execution is carried out according to approved work lists, applicable standards and refinery procedures.
Prepare daily status/progress reports as required by the CPCL Manager.
Prepare material requirement plans and coordinate with the CPCL Planning Manager.
Coordinate with Inspection, Manufacturing, Maintenance and other refinery departments.
Coordinate issuance and collection of CPCL-supplied materials.
Verify that specified materials are used for the respective works.
Technical Requirements

Engineering and piping drawings
Welding activities
Fit-up and inspection procedures

Refinery maintenance procedures
Codes & Standards

Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards such as:

ASTM
ANSI
API
Applicable refinery and mechanical engineering standards
Software Skills
MS Office / MS Excel for reporting and documentation.
Hands-on experience with Primavera Project Planner is required.
Educational Qualification
Engineering Candidates
B.E. / B.Tech / AMIE in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
Diploma Candidates
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum 6 years of relevant experience.
Relevant Experience

Experience should be related to:

Mechanical planning and supervision
Petroleum refineries
Petrochemical plants
Hydrocarbon plant maintenance
Piping maintenance
Piping modification/replacement
Mechanical execution and supervision

Experience in maintenance of hydrocarbon plants is essential.

Selection will be based on qualifications, relevant experience and a personal interview. The client’s decision regarding selection will be final.

Working Hours
12-hour working schedule
Candidates must be willing to work Day/Night Shifts.
