Job Summary

HTIC, IIT Madras is seeking an experienced Senior Robotics Control Engineer to lead the Controls Team responsible for designing, developing, and deploying advanced control systems for physical robotic platforms. The role involves developing control algorithms for collaborative robotic manipulators, integrating force-torque and vision sensors, implementing state estimation and motion planning techniques, and leading a multidisciplinary engineering team in building next-generation robotic solutions for healthcare applications.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
Lead and mentor the robotics controls engineering team.
Provide technical direction and strategic planning for robotics control projects.
Manage project schedules, resource allocation, and technical deliverables.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate hardware and software subsystems into complete robotic systems.
Control System Design
Design, implement, and optimize advanced robotic control algorithms.
Develop and deploy:
Force Control
Position Control
Impedance Control
Admittance Control
Adaptive Control
Robust Control
Stochastic Control
Vision-Based Control (Visual Servoing)
Ensure control systems meet performance, stability, reliability, and robustness requirements.
Robotic System Modeling
Model and analyze serial robotic manipulators.
Develop static and dynamic models of robotic systems.
Model end-effector and environmental interactions required for advanced control.
Validate and refine system models for accurate simulation and deployment.
State Estimation & Sensor Integration
Develop estimation algorithms using:
Kalman Filters
State Observers
Advanced Estimation Techniques
Implement sensor fusion algorithms combining:
Force-Torque Sensors
Vision Sensors
Other robotic sensors
Perform calibration of sensors for accurate measurements.
Integrate real-time sensor feedback into robotic control systems.
Motion Planning
Design motion planning algorithms for robotic surgical applications.
Develop modular and reusable motion planning frameworks.
Optimize robot trajectories for efficiency, safety, and precision.
Research & Innovation
Explore emerging technologies in robotics and advanced control.
Develop prototypes and proof-of-concept solutions.
Conduct experiments and validate new control methodologies.
Contribute to cutting-edge healthcare robotics research.
Required Skills
Strong expertise in robotic manipulator control.
Hands-on experience implementing advanced control algorithms on physical robotic systems.
Deep understanding of robot kinematics, dynamics, and control theory.

MS or PhD in:

Candidates with significant experience in robotic manipulator control are also encouraged to apply.

5–8 years of experience in robotics control systems, automation, or advanced robotic research and development.
