Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Journal Project Manager with a strong background in academic or STM (Scientific, Technical, and Medical) publishing. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing end-to-end journal production workflows, coordinating with clients and editorial teams, ensuring quality standards, and delivering projects within agreed timelines and service level agreements (SLAs).
Key Responsibilities
Journal Production Management
Manage end-to-end journal production workflows from manuscript submission to final publication.
Coordinate manuscript processing, editorial review, copyediting, proofreading, corrections, and issue compilation.
Ensure timely delivery of journal content to client publishing platforms.
Monitor production schedules and workflow efficiency.
Client & Stakeholder Management
Act as the primary point of contact for clients, authors, editors, and internal teams.
Manage client communications and resolve project-related queries promptly.
Build strong client relationships and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
Coordinate with editorial and production teams to meet publishing requirements.
Project Planning & Delivery
Develop and maintain project schedules and production timelines.
Track project progress against defined SLAs and delivery milestones.
Identify risks, bottlenecks, and delays, and escalate issues when required.
Ensure successful delivery of multiple concurrent projects.
Quality Assurance
Oversee quality checks for proofs, layouts, metadata, and final deliverables.
Ensure compliance with client specifications and publishing standards.
Monitor quality metrics and implement corrective actions when necessary.
Maintain accuracy and consistency throughout the publication process.
Workflow & Process Management
Utilize digital publishing and client platforms effectively.
Maintain project documentation and production records.
Ensure adherence to publishing workflows, ethical guidelines, and industry best practices.
Support continuous process improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline.
Additional qualifications in publishing, communication, or project management are advantageous.
Required Experience
Minimum 2 years of experience in academic publishing or STM publishing.
Experience in journal or book production management.
Hands-on experience working with digital client publishing platforms.
Exposure to project coordination or project management roles within publishing environments.
