Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Staff Nurse to join our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) team. The successful candidate will provide specialized nursing care to newborns, including premature and critically ill infants, while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and adherence to clinical standards.
The role requires continuous monitoring of neonatal patients, administration of treatments, operation of life-support equipment, and close collaboration with doctors and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
Key Responsibilities
Neonatal Patient Care
Monitor and assess newborns’ heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, oxygen saturation, and overall clinical condition.
Provide comprehensive nursing care to premature, critically ill, and high-risk newborns.
Ensure patient comfort through appropriate positioning, developmental care, and stress reduction techniques.
Medication & Treatment Administration
Administer prescribed medications, intravenous (IV) fluids, and nutritional support.
Monitor patient responses to treatments and report any abnormalities to the medical team.
Assist with specialized neonatal procedures and interventions as required.
Equipment Management
Operate and monitor ventilators, infusion pumps, oxygen delivery systems, and other neonatal care equipment.
Ensure proper functioning and maintenance of medical devices used in the NICU.
Respond promptly to equipment alarms and patient emergencies.
Emergency & Critical Care Support
Recognize and respond quickly to neonatal emergencies, including respiratory distress, cardiac complications, and sudden clinical deterioration.
Assist physicians during emergency procedures and resuscitation efforts.
Provide continuous observation and monitoring of critically ill infants.
Parent Education & Support
Educate parents and caregivers regarding newborn care, feeding practices, medication administration, and post-discharge care.
Provide emotional support and reassurance to families during their infant’s hospitalization.
Encourage family involvement in the care process whenever appropriate.
Documentation & Compliance
Maintain accurate and timely patient records, treatment documentation, and nursing notes.
Collaborate effectively with neonatologists, pediatricians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
Follow infection prevention and control protocols to protect vulnerable infants.
Adhere to hospital policies, patient safety standards, and professional nursing practices.
Preferred Qualifications
GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery)
B.Sc Nursing
Post Basic B.Sc Nursing
Experience
NICU experience preferred.
Freshers with neonatal care training may also apply.
Required Skills
Strong neonatal assessment and monitoring skills.
Knowledge of ventilator and critical care equipment management.
Ability to respond effectively during emergencies.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Strong documentation and patient-care management abilities.
