Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Infection Prevention and Control Officer (IPCO) to join our hospital team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating infection prevention and control programs to ensure a safe healthcare environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
The role requires expertise in infection control practices, surveillance of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), staff education, and compliance monitoring to support the hospital’s quality and patient safety initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Infection Prevention & Control
Develop, implement, and monitor infection prevention and control policies, procedures, and protocols.
Implement strategies to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases within the hospital.
Ensure adherence to hand hygiene practices, isolation precautions, sterilization procedures, and standard infection control measures.
Monitor compliance with infection prevention guidelines across all hospital departments.
Surveillance & Monitoring
Conduct surveillance of Hospital-Acquired Infections (HAIs) and other infectious disease trends.
Monitor, analyze, and report infection data, outbreaks, and epidemiological patterns.
Investigate infection incidents and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
Maintain accurate records and prepare infection control reports for management and regulatory requirements.
Audits & Compliance
Conduct infection control audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
Evaluate compliance with infection prevention standards and accreditation requirements.
Identify areas for improvement and implement corrective action plans.
Ensure proper usage, handling, and disposal of biomedical waste.
Training & Education
Provide ongoing education and training programs for healthcare staff on infection prevention practices.
Train employees on the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Conduct awareness programs and competency assessments related to infection control measures.
Collaboration & Quality Improvement
Collaborate with doctors, nurses, laboratory personnel, housekeeping teams, and hospital administrators.
Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Support outbreak management and emergency preparedness activities.
Qualifications
Educational Qualification
B.Sc Nursing
Mandatory Certification
Certificate Program in Infection Prevention and Control
Experience
Minimum 2 to 5 years of experience in Infection Prevention and Control or a similar healthcare role.
Required Skills
Strong knowledge of infection prevention and control principles.
Familiarity with HAI surveillance and reporting systems.
Knowledge of sterilization, disinfection, and biomedical waste management practices.
Excellent analytical, documentation, and reporting skills.
Strong communication and training abilities.
Ability to conduct audits and implement quality improvement initiatives.
Attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
