Job Title: Head Mechanic

Job Summary:
The Head Mechanic is responsible for leading the maintenance and repair operations of vehicles, machinery, and mechanical equipment. This role supervises a team of mechanics and technicians, ensures preventive maintenance programs are effectively implemented, manages spare parts inventory, and maintains high standards of safety, quality, and operational efficiency. The Head Mechanic also works closely with suppliers and customers to ensure timely, cost-effective, and reliable maintenance services.

Key Responsibilities
Lead and supervise daily maintenance and repair activities for vehicles and mechanical equipment.
Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize equipment downtime.
Diagnose complex mechanical and electrical faults using appropriate diagnostic tools.
Inspect completed repairs to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
Train, mentor, and evaluate mechanics and technicians to improve technical skills and productivity.
Plan and allocate work assignments based on workload and priority.
Monitor workshop performance and ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks.
Maintain inventory of spare parts, tools, and workshop consumables.
Coordinate with suppliers and vendors for procurement of spare parts and equipment.
Negotiate with vendors to ensure cost-effective purchasing without compromising quality.
Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair reports, and service documentation.
Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations and company policies.
Investigate recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
Fabricate or modify mechanical components when required to improve equipment performance.
Handle customer concerns related to repairs and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
Required Qualifications
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, or a related technical field.
Relevant certifications in automotive or industrial maintenance are an added advantage.
Experience
Several years of experience in vehicle or machinery maintenance.
Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
Strong experience in preventive and corrective maintenance.
Required Skills
Advanced mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
Strong leadership and team management abilities.
Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices.
Familiarity with workshop tools, equipment, and diagnostic software.
Inventory and spare parts management.
Vendor and supplier coordination.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Strong knowledge of workplace safety regulations and maintenance standards.
Work Environment
Workshop, garage, manufacturing facility, or industrial maintenance environment.
May require standing for long periods, lifting heavy equipment, and responding to emergency maintenance situations.
Occasional overtime may be required based on operational needs.
