Job Description – Lab Technician (Bio-Input Analysis)

Position: Lab Technician – Bio-Input Analysis
Location: Model Farm, Coimbatore
Department: Research & Development / Sustainable Agriculture

Job Summary

We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Lab Technician – Bio-Input Analysis to support research and field initiatives focused on sustainable agriculture. The successful candidate will assist in laboratory testing, microbial analysis, data management, and field sample collection to improve soil health and farming practices across India.

Key Responsibilities
1. Sample Preparation & Analysis
Collect, label, and prepare soil, compost, water, and bio-input samples for analysis.
Perform microbial assays and microscopic examination of protozoa, fungal networks, and other microorganisms.
Ensure accurate sample handling and documentation throughout the testing process.
2. Instrument Operation & Maintenance
Operate and calibrate laboratory equipment, including:
pH meters
Spectrophotometers
Moisture analyzers
Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of laboratory instruments.
Ensure equipment is functioning according to laboratory standards.
3. Data Management
Record laboratory observations and test results accurately in laboratory notebooks and digital platforms such as AppSheet and BigQuery.
Prepare summary reports, charts, and visualizations for internal stakeholders.
Maintain organized laboratory records and databases.
4. Quality Assurance
Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and laboratory safety guidelines.
Ensure accuracy and consistency of laboratory testing.
Monitor laboratory inventory and maintain proper storage conditions for chemicals, reagents, and samples.
5. Field Support
Assist with field sample collection and on-site testing when required.
Coordinate with research and field teams during agricultural trials and studies.
Support research activities related to soil health and bio-input development.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in:
Soil Science
Microbiology
Chemistry
Or a related scientific discipline.
1–2 years of laboratory experience (academic or industry).
Experience using basic laboratory equipment and sterile laboratory techniques.
Strong analytical, observational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of soil microbiology and sustainable agriculture.
Experience with microbial analysis and microscopy.
Familiarity with digital data management tools.
Good communication and documentation skills.
Willingness to participate in field-based research activities.
