Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Staff Nurse to join our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The ideal candidate will provide specialized nursing care to critically ill and premature newborns while ensuring compliance with NABH standards, infection control protocols, and patient safety guidelines.
This role requires strong clinical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with neonatologists, pediatricians, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
Key Responsibilities
Neonatal Patient Care
Provide specialized nursing care to critically ill, premature, and high-risk newborns admitted to the NICU.
Monitor and assess vital signs, oxygen saturation levels, and overall neonatal condition.
Administer medications, intravenous fluids, and prescribed treatments accurately.
Assist with life-support procedures and neonatal emergency interventions.
Clinical Support
Support doctors during patient rounds, diagnostic procedures, and medical emergencies.
Operate and monitor neonatal equipment such as incubators, infusion pumps, phototherapy units, and patient monitoring systems.
Observe patient responses to treatment and report any significant changes promptly.
Documentation & Record Keeping
Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation and patient records.
Record assessments, treatments, medications, and clinical observations according to hospital protocols.
Ensure proper communication during patient handovers and shift changes.
Infection Control & Quality Compliance
Follow strict infection prevention and control measures within the NICU.
Ensure compliance with NABH standards, hospital policies, and nursing protocols.
Maintain a safe and sterile environment for neonatal patients.
Parent Education & Counseling
Educate and counsel parents regarding neonatal care, feeding practices, infection prevention, and discharge instructions.
Provide emotional support and guidance to families during the newborn’s hospitalization.
Encourage parental involvement in the baby’s care whenever appropriate.
Team Collaboration
Work closely with neonatologists, pediatricians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
Participate in multidisciplinary patient care planning and quality improvement initiatives.
Contribute to maintaining high standards of neonatal healthcare delivery.
Qualifications
Educational Qualification
GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery)
B.Sc Nursing
Post Basic B.Sc Nursing
Registration
Valid Nursing Council Registration
Tamil Nadu Nursing Council Registration preferred
Experience
Minimum 1–3 years of NICU experience in a reputed hospital.
Freshers with NICU training are also encouraged to apply.
Required Skills
Strong neonatal nursing and critical care skills.
Knowledge of NICU equipment and neonatal monitoring techniques.
Ability to respond effectively to neonatal emergencies.
Excellent communication and patient counseling abilities.
